|
At Wiseman, we are committed to helping young people grow both personally and professionally.
Each team provides its own training, outlining the responsibilities and benefits of being a member of Wiseman.
Peers and Mentors Interns become fully contributing members of the Wiseman team and gain valuable work experience as they develop and demonstrate their skills within the education community. Your team leader, along with every Wiseman team member you come in contact with, is wholly committed to mentoring you throughout your time with us. Our objective is to offer you the type of responsibility and experience that will provide valuable guidance as you enter the real world or prepare for your next move.

Ho Ching
|
|
Hey there! My name is Ho Ching and I was a part of the Wiseman team for the very last summer of my life as a student.
This experience was surely fun and full of different tasks that have prepared me for the real workplace in just a year time! The improvements I made for Fun and Friends and the designs for the enhancements have certainly made me more meticulous and allowed me to think outside the box. The chance to give orientations to different schools has also thrown me out of my comfort zone! It definitely rewarded me with more confidence and polished my presentation skills.
I just want to say - Thank you Wiseman for this wonderful opportunity! This internship was packed with adventures that I enjoyed very much. I will always remember what I have learnt and continue improving myself.

Lungile
|
|
My name is Lungile Mtembu, from South Africa. I recently bid farewell as my 6 months internship at Wiseman Education ended.
Personally, what makes an internship valuable is its ability to empower an individual to use the skills and experience gained to grow both professionally and personally. And I believe that my Wiseman experience reached that level of success. From the minute I stepped into the office, I knew I had a lot to learn from the dedicated and professional colleagues.
The environment allowed me to make mistakes, learn and correct them. It challenged me to be opened-minded in subjects that I had limited knowledge in and to always do my best in all the tasks I was given. I learned how to manage my workload, how to work efficiently, manage deadlines and improve my computer and writing skills. My tasks varied each day, from researching history subjects, to science experiments and Fun and Friends lesson games. Seeing the end product of tasks I was involved in, was rewarding.
Furthermore, I witnessed the power of e-learning and the students' willingness to learn and excel (particularly at the Fun and Friends Awards Ceremony). It was interesting to see how technology has the power to make learning fun while maintaining its core objective. Not only are students gaining information but they are also learning basic computer skills, which are essential in the 21st century.
The hospitality I received was remarkable. The willingness by colleagues to help me settle in Hong Kong and in the office was helpful. Working on different tasks with different people made the working experience interesting and broadened my knowledge on different subjects. Being part of a company that has achieved and still achieving incredibly in and beyond Hong Kong boarders was inspiring.
I am truly grateful for this opportunity. Thank you Wiseman Education for the amazing experience and teaching me skills that contribute to helping me become the best that I can ever be.

Sylvia
|
|
My name is Sylvia and I have recently completed 6 weeks of internship at Wiseman. It was tremendously fulfilling and rewarding, not only did the experience gave me a whole new insight on how e-learning supports and empowers education, but much beyond that was the directions my mentors inspired me to strive for both personally and professionally.
Being able to bring my limited knowledge into the real world and be given opportunities to expand on it through work and interactions with colleagues was something that I looked forward to everyday. My day- to- day work with my colleagues was filled with new challenges, jokes and fun ideas. It was a place that I never got bored of.
My work started with researching China's curriculum and suggesting possible target language areas for the children. During the later part of my internship, I was given opportunities to participate in various areas for Fun and Friends as well as question setting for some school based projects. I grew from having zero knowledge of the industry to being able to participate in the development of e-learning through the innovative guidance of my mentors.
I am grateful to have learnt through and worked with a group of talented and passionate individuals of the educational field at Wiseman, and more precisely, true educators that are willing to teach and share. Even though it was only a short 6- week internship, my angle and way of thinking as a learner and worker has matured greatly. Wiseman is definitely a place that motivated me to explore and pursue my strengths and weaknesses. I am sure things I learnt here will be useful everywhere I go as I continue with the educational path.

Natalie

I am Natalie. I am studying English Literature and Fine Art at the University of Toronto. I will not lie: the past three months have been challenging but equally rewarding. My internship experience at Wiseman involved a myriad of projects, such as teaching, doing illustrations, organizing events and lots of writing. It was overwhelming at first. Each day, I would go to work without the faintest idea what was in store for me. Not for long, though, I learned something unique about Wiseman: with an open mind, you can always find your niche, even if it takes twists and turns to get there. Although the nature of my assigned tasks varied greatly throughout the internship, I trust that I could always unravel each task with the same dedication and care. This approach really opened doors.
To my colleagues: Thank you for being so helpful and patient. I really appreciate your generosity. I had a very positive experience here! Thank you Wiseman!

Helen

|
I am Helen and I was part of the Wiseman team for 2 summer months.
My work consisted of writing sample exams to prepare young students for the Cambridge ESOL English test, making some recordings, playing a saxophone duet with my colleague KP in the Fun n’ Friends Award Ceremony that was very much fun, and teaching English following the Literature Out Loud method at the Ho Lap Primary School for 6 weeks.
It was an emotional summer and the experiences made me grow as a person. Above all, I am very thankful to have felt such a positive and friendly work atmosphere at Wiseman that I will always remember. Thank you!

Working as a Graphic Design Assistant, I learnt the basic functions of Adobe Illustrator, as a first time user. My tutor Denis was very patient and encouraging as he guided me along different projects and tasks.
One of my projects was to design the homepage for one of Wiseman’s products. Before all the design work began, Denis asked me to do in-depth research on how to design a proper website. That research enabled me to gain a general knowledge of what a proper website should look like. By researching and discussing my work with Denis, I was able to create a homepage that met the needs of the product.
In addition to design projects, Wiseman gave me a chance to represent the company by giving orientations to secondary schools. I have made the most out of these golden opportunities, giving orientations to hundreds of students in different schools. Talking to an audience is not something everyone can do, and these experiences have broadened my horizons and increased my confidence in public speaking.
Finally, through Wiseman, I was also able to try my hand at data input using Microsoft Office Excel, and I even set up accounts and modules for new users.
To conclude, I had a tremendous experience with this company. Wiseman has taught me to work both independently and as part of a team. Three weeks was a really short period of time for an internship and I feel like I should have stayed longer. I would like to thank every member of the Wiseman staff for their kindness, patience and humor, which made my time with them unforgettable. Once again, thank you all for everything.

I’m Ivy, a Year 1 student studying at the University of Hong Kong. I had my first taste of work this summer with Wiseman – and frankly, it’s not all sweet and sugary! Work, in the first place, is very new to me as I’ve never worked before. I’m not used to the “Mon-Fri” schedule and the daily work routine. Luckily enough, I got over this very soon and started to enjoy my time at Wiseman. This may sound cliché, but I learnt so much during my time here, from practical technical skills to communication skills, marketing strategies, and a lot more!
At times, I was presented with challenging tasks which overwhelmed me at first but brought me great satisfaction when I overcame them (this is perhaps the “bittersweet” part)! I had hands-on experience drafting publications, designing leaflets, organizing award ceremonies, holding English Builder orientation workshops, all of which matured my mind, boosted my confidence and most importantly enhanced my self-knowledge. I intend to work in the field of education in the future and this experience has convinced me that education is meaningful, inspiring and powerful as it sows seeds of virtue in people’s hearts and seeds of knowledge in people’s minds. I learnt a great deal about myself in these 2 months and I’m most thankful to everyone at Wiseman who made my summer fruitful and refreshing!

'I am Anthony Chan, a Form 6 student in Diocesan Boys' School. My summer internship at Wiseman is not just about work (or fun): in just a fortnight, I have cooperated with enthusiastic colleagues on curriculum development and truly indulged in the work ethos of the company. This is real learning, putting all the 'teamwork', 'cooperation', 'quality-control' and other theories they teach at school into real practice. Hopefully, this has equipped me with knowledge to be, well, a Wiser Man. Ha-ha-ha (why's no one laughing?).
One final note: Thank you, Wiseman, for giving me such enrichment and fun!'

I am Karie Li, a F.6 student from Hong Kong Red Cross John. F Kennedy Centre. I really want to show my gratitude to Wiseman Education for it provided me my first job training. During the training, I learnt how to make business phone calls, how to use computer for various job purposes, and the appropriate work attitudes and manners. I have also learnt to be confident in myself and to believe that I have the ability to do the work right. I enjoyed working for Wiseman Education because everyone in Wiseman is very helpful. I am sure this experience can help me with my future career.

My name is Marco, and I am a Final Year Psychology student at Bath University, UK. During my internship at Wiseman, I have been able to get involved in a wide range of projects, from preparing learning materials and creating promotional clips for Wiseman's products to visiting local schools and primary English classes based in Shenzhen, all of which provided wonderful experiences I take away with. It has been a great pleasure to work with an inspiring team of lovely people to whom I am most grateful.

“I am Otto Cheung. I’m a third year Computing and Financial Management student at the University of Waterloo, Canada. It’s been a great term working here again as a multimedia developer. During the term, I worked on product mock-ups, promotional videos and some HTML5/CSS3 prototyping.
I’ve met many great people working here and am very grateful that Wiseman has provided such opportunities for students to gain real-world experience. Wiseman’s unique corporate culture and core values make it one of the most meaningful companies to work for and I truly cherish the memories and experience I’ve gained in these four months.”

I am Christy Tse, an F.5 student from St Paul’s Convent School, and an intern this year at Wiseman. Although I have only recently started, I think I’ve learnt a lot. My work every day varies from dealing with spreadsheets to reading researches to being involved in projects. Apart from being exposed to different office work, I am also growing in confidence. I enjoy working at Wiseman very much because the atmosphere is very harmonious and everyone is just like a part of the family, serving others and working with others cheerfully. I am sure by the end of the internship I will gain much more than I had expected.

I am Steven, a year 1 student doing business in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Being a member of the product development team, I am really glad to be given ample opportunities to work with different professionals and other summer interns. More importantly, instead of doing English Builder (like I previously did in my high school years) I am now setting some of the questions for the secondary school students! It’s a great experience being here and I really revel in what I am doing!

After joining the Think Again Leadership Programme 2008, I joined Wiseman as an intern for summer. Throughout the 2 months, I realized that if you don’t have enough positive energy, it is never easy to be an intern at Wiseman. You will have to accomplish a variety of tasks, may it be making a lesson plan and compiling phonics exercises, or going to other companies like Warner Music for meetings, internship at Wiseman is fun and full of challenges. I am Chris Fung, a graduate of Christian Alliance SC Chan Memorial College, and nursing student of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
I joined the Wiseman family in 2008 as a summer intern, which enabled me to experience something different from the field of nursing. With Wiseman I had the opportunity to take part in the organising of the Think Great Snapshot Competition 2008 ceremony. I participated in the whole event from receiving entries for the competition and designing posters, to the logistics of the ceremony, and was deeply impressed by the preparation work involved. My interpersonal, communication and cooperation skills all greatly improved. I believe these skills are invaluable for my future career.

I am Lau Man Yui, a 2008 summer intern with Wiseman Education. My internship felt like a truly enjoyable vacation. At Wiseman I was treated like a family member. I made a lot of great friends and had the opportunity to get involved in preparing great events such as the Think Series and English Builder ceremonies. It was an unforgettable experience, as not only did I learn how to be a responsible and successful organiser, but I was also able to share in the happiness with all the awardees. Once again I would like to express my gratitude to all the Wiseman staff as it was a really great experience.

My name is Otto Cheung. I am currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Computing & Financial Management at the University of Waterloo.
During the summer of 2007, I had the valuable oppurtunity to work at Wiseman Education as a multimedia developer intern. I was responsible for implementing design solutions for several Wiseman products, such as English Builder and Think Again Documentary Making Competition. This internship gave me an oppurtunity to apply what I learned in class into real world scenarios.
However, I believe the most valuable experience I gained in this internship is the experience working with other staff in Wiseman. They are always cheerful, fun to work with, & willing to provide help when you need it. It was a truly rewarding experience working here at Wiseman.

Tinnok
|
|
Hi! My name is Tinnok and I’m a recent advertising graduate from Boston University.
Last summer I was fortunate to work for Wiseman as a graphic design intern.
Although my skills were still quite fresh, I was entrusted with many responsibilities from making logos to designing website interfaces and booklets.
I still recall numerous conversations with the staff and especially Clement, the CEO of the company. Clement was very encouraging and often appreciated my work, yet he challenged me to push myself further.
Despite being very busy, he was always available to discuss my designs with me, until I began to come up with ideas relevant to the learning product rather than things merely pleasing to the eye.
“The idea is always more important than the graphics,” he reiterated. I haven’t forgotten this.
